The search for Lake Travis High School’s new principal will continue into the upcoming school year after a pool of candidates failed to meet the district’s criteria, according to a July 5 letter to parents from Superintendent Paul Norton.
The position was left vacant after former Principal Gordon Butler was named assistant superintendent for Carroll ISD in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Butler began his career at Lake Travis ISD in 2016.
While multiple highly qualified candidates expressed interest in the open position, Norton said they could not commit to leaving their districts or relocating so late in the year. He added the remaining applicants did not meet the criteria requested by high school staff and administrators.
“Summer is a difficult time of the year to secure an administrative position of this caliber,” Norton wrote.
