Upon consultation with the Texas Education Agency, Lake Travis ISD will suspend all school operations until April 5, according to a letter from Superintendent Brad Lancaster March 16.
In a concentrated effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, all campus facilities will be closed for instruction following the end spring break March 23.
LTISD joins approximately 730 Texas school districts who have announced closure plans amid concerns regarding the virus.
Lancaster ensured staff that administration will continue to implement payroll and benefits without interruption.
“While our buildings will be closed and normal operations suspended, we will provide modified instruction and services to students,” Lancaster said. “We will have more information for parents next week.”

In an attempt to safeguard the community and slow the spread of COVID-19, Eanes ISD announced it will close its campuses from March 23-April 5.
The district will be engaging in its previously scheduled spring break until March 23 and will implement remote learning practices during the two-week period leading up to April 5.
“We are in unprecedented territory in an extraordinarily challenging time, but we will do everything we can to protect our students and staff,” Superintendent Tom Leonard said, adding that the closure will provide the district with necessary time to asses to the evolving situation.
During the two-week period, all district facilities will be closed for insurrection, events, athletics childcare, after-school programs and more. This will include the regular board of trustees meeting scheduled for March 31.
At an emergency called board meeting Saturday, March 14, the board of trustees signed a resolution delegating authority to Leonard in the event of a closure. This resolution will allow the district to stay agile in its decision-making process, Leonard said.
The resolution, which can be revoked at any time, will enable Leonard to make decisions, if necessary, regarding employee compensation, school lunch distribution and more. An amendment was added ensuring that Leonard will continue timely communication with trustees during this process.
