Upcoming projects
1. Lakeshore subdivision drainage improvements
Project: Storm sewer and inlet additions will be installed along Elm Shores Drive in the Lakeshore subdivision. The project aims to increase drainage capacity and reduce flood risk throughout the neighborhood.
Update: The construction contract is scheduled to be awarded after press time during Harris County Commissioners Court's July 30 meeting, Harris County Precinct 3 Communications Manager Jeannie Peng confirmed July 15.
2. Northpark Drive reconstruction project
Project: Northpark Drive will be reconstructed as a six-lane divided roadway between Russell Palmer Road and Woodland Hills Drive.
Update: Land surveys, right-of-way acquisitions and easement preparations are underway for this project, Houston City Council member Fred Flickinger said via a June 30 newsletter.
3. West Lake Houston Parkway traffic lights
Project: Traffic lights will be rebuilt at five intersections along West Lake Houston Parkway, including at Kings River Drive/Kings Lake Estates Boulevard, Upper Lake Drive, Firesign Drive, Pine Cup Drive and Lonesome Woods Trail.
Update: The design phase has been completed for this project, and construction is pending funding, Peng said.
4. Will Clayton Parkway sidewalk
Project: A sidewalk will be constructed along Will Clayton Parkway between Tabor Brook Drive and Garbit Drive. The project aims to enhance pedestrian mobility.
Update: Previously expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, utility conflicts delayed construction on this project, Peng said July 15.
5. Will Clayton Parkway, Tabor Brook Drive traffic signal
Project: A new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Will Clayton Parkway and Tabor Brook Drive. The project aims to increase driver safety.
Update: This project is in the design phase, Peng said.
6. Woodland Hills Drive, Teakwood Spring Drive traffic signal
Project: A new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Woodland Hills and Teakwood Spring drives. The project aims to increase driver safety.
Update: This project is in the design phase, and the construction start date has been moved up from 2027.
Ongoing projects
7. Kingwood Drive panel replacement
Project: Deteriorated concrete roadway panels will be removed and replaced along portions of Kingwood Drive between Mills Branch Drive and Willow Terrace Drive.
Update: Work began June 26 following weather-related delays, per a July 1 news release from Flickinger's office. Throughout the duration of the project, motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts, including single-lane closures.
8. Northpark Drive overpass project
Project: Northpark Drive will be widened to a six-lane divided roadway between Hwy. 59 and Russell Palmer Road with an overpass.
Update: Traffic has been shifted onto the newly constructed surface lanes, allowing motorists to travel straight through from Hwy. 59 to Russell Palmer Road, Flickinger said in the June 30 newsletter. The new traffic pattern eliminated the temporary zig-zag alignment and cleared the way for construction of the new overpass bridges across Loop 494 and the Union Pacific railroad. Crews have begun removing the old roadway near the railroad crossing and are reconstructing the Loop 494 intersection. Work also continues on the new entry ponds near Hwy. 59.
9. Timber Forest Drive, Greens Road traffic light
Project: A new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Timber Forest Drive and Greens Road. The project aims to increase driver safety.
Update: Construction is underway and expected to wrap up within the third quarter of 2026, Peng said July 15.
10. West Lake Houston Parkway sidewalk improvement project
Project: New sidewalk will be installed and connected to an existing sidewalk and an ADA-accessible ramp along W. Lake Houston Parkway between Lake Arlington Road and Edge Lake Boulevard.
Update: Work began July 1, per a July 8 news release from Flickinger's office. Throughout the duration of the project, motorists should anticipate minor traffic impacts, including temporary lane closures.
