Harris County Judge Ed Emmett has filed to run for re-election on the Republican party ticket for 2018, and one Democratic challenger has filed as of the Dec. 11 deadline, according to the Texas Secretary of State. Lina Hidalgo filed to run on the Democratic ticket, according to the SOS website. A second Democratic candidate also filed but withdrew. Although the filing deadline was Dec. 11, political parties have until Dec. 21 to submit their lists of candidates who have filed, according to the Secretary of State's office.
