1. Layne’s Chicken Fingers opens 12th Houston-area location in Cypress
Layne’s Chicken Fingers CEO Garrett Reed told Community Impact the franchise held a soft opening for its new Cypress location July 17 with a grand opening July 18. Known for its crispy fried chicken meals, Reed said Layne’s Chicken Fingers contains marinated tenderloin chicken and is hand breaded to offer a crispy crunchy exterior that reflects traditional fried chicken.

2. Mariachi Del Bosque to perform in The Woodlands
Founded in 2021 by four college students, today, Mariachi Del Bosque performs with 14 members. Often performing in The Woodlands, Mariachi Del Bosque performs at Herrera’s Mexican Restaurant once a month and performs at special events such as weddings, quinceañeras and community events.
The mariachi band won first place at the Houston Rodeo Mariachi Invitational in 2025.

3. HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe names new chief medical officer
HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe named Dr. Renee Hebbeler-Clark its new chief medical officer July 17. Hebbeler-Clark has more than 15 years of clinical experience, with a background in patient safety, quality improvement and hospital operations, according to a July 17 news release.

4. Nothing Bundt Cakes now open in Tomball
Nothing Bundt Cakes officials confirmed the bakery opened a new location in Tomball in late June. According to the website, Nothing Bundt Cakes has over 550 locations across the U.S. and Canada.
The new Tomball location offers over 60 handcrafted cakes designed to be themed around holidays and celebrations throughout the year.

5. HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood names new chief medical officer
HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood announced Dr. Arabinda "Ara" Pani as the hospital's new chief medical officer, via a July 13 news release. Most recently, Pani has served as the chief medical officer at HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest since January 2023.

6. Sam Houston State University opens new charter school in Spring
Sam Houston State University officials announced the opening of a new charter school serving the Spring and Klein area in July.
SHSU launched a series of charter schools in 2017, and has four locations across the northern Houston region, including in The Woodlands, Humble and Spring. The newest location, which will be at the intersection of Kuykendahl Road and FM 2920, will offer schooling for children in kindergarten through second grade.

7. Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux tentative opening delayed in New Caney
The estimated opening date for Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux in Valley Ranch Town Center has been pushed from August to this fall, a spokesperson with Valley Ranch developer The Signorelli Co. confirmed via email June 25. The restaurant was previously expected to open this past spring.
Walk-On's offers a menu of Cajun and Creole dishes, such as boom boom shrimp tacos, gumbo and fried alligator, as previously reported by Community Impact.
