Houston City Council approved $300 million for the redevelopment of Terminal B at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. This is the second payment of city funding for the project led in partnership with United Airlines.
What this means
Council approved the payment without discussion. Funding comes from the Airport System Consolidated 2011 Construction Fund.
The city’s funding for the project stems from enterprise funds derived from charges paid by airport passengers, according to previous reporting.
The project is done in phases and is currently in Phase 3. This is the second of three payments for the phase. The first payment was $150 million and the third is expected to be $174 million, totalling $624 million.
There are expected to be three milestone projects under Phase 3:
- Improvements and expansion of the Terminal B processor
- Replacement of the Terminal B North Concourse with 22 narrow-body aircraft equivalent gates
- Replacement of the regional gates on Terminal B South for 18 large regional gates

According to
previous reporting, both Terminal B North Concourse and Terminal B South Concourse will be completed by early 2028.
