New Caney ISD to consider rezoning middle, high school attendance zones

New Caney ISD is considering rezoning its middle and high school attendance zones and is asking for community input before the board of trustees' Jan. 19 meeting.

The potential rezoning is meant to address growth in the New Caney area with the upcoming openings of the Keefer Crossing Middle School replacement in August 2021 and Comprehensive High School No. 3 in August 2022.

For middle schools, approximately 20% of current sixth-graders at New Caney Middle School will be rezoned to Keefer Crossing Middle School and New Caney High School, according to a news release on the district's website. A small portion of current fifth-graders at Oakley Elementary School will be rezoned to attend Keefer Crossing.

For high schools, the new campus is expected to open for freshmen only in 2022. Keefer Crossing Middle School students will be zoned to New Caney High School, New Caney Middle School students will be zoned to Porter High School, White Oak Middle School students will be zoned to Porter High School and Woodridge Forest Middle School will be zoned to the new high school.

A Q&A session for parents will be held Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Randall Reed Stadium's Community Room. The district has also opened an online feedback form for community insight. The board will vote on the rezoning at its regular meeting Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
