Kingwood Middle School rebuild renderings show natural lighting, 'liveable forest' features for incoming campus

At the June 9 Humble ISD school board meeting, district officials and trustees heard a presentation from Kirksey Architecture on the Kingwood Middle School rebuild project.

The new campus will be built on the north side of the existing campus, and it will have one entrance on Pine Terrace Drive. Kirksey Architecture associate John Wilkinson said Phase 1 includes the construction of the school. Phase 2 includes demolishing the old campus on the south side of the property and building sports fields in its place.

Construction on Phase 1 will begin in September and be completed in June 2022. Phase 2 construction will begin in June 2022 and will be completed in December 2022. The school will open in August 2022.

The school features natural lights, warm colors and accents that are inspired by Kingwood being known as "the livable forest." The school will include collaboration zones for students to work, a theater and a competition gym.

"One of the big points we want to make is to really integrate with the community and provide them something that is inspiring. It builds upon the great things they've already done," Wilkinson said.

Construction bids for the roughly $75 million campus are due June 23, HISD Chief Communications Officer Jamie Mount said. The rebuild will expand the campus's capacity from 1,000 to 1,100 students, district officials said.
