Humble ISD approves contracts for new playscapes, middle school improvements

Humble ISD trustees at their Dec. 14 meeting approved the selection of three contractors to construct several new playscapes included the district’s $775 million bond approved by voters in May.

According to budget documents, trustees approved a $4 million contract with Playcore Wisconsin Inc., a $9 million contract with playground manufacturer Kompan and a $9 million contract with Lone Star Recreation of Texas.

The new playgrounds are coming after the district completed the first of 30 new playscapes funded through the bond at Woodland Hills Elementary in October. The projects will consist of either a new playground or the installation of fitness equipment at each of the district’s elementary and middle schools.

Superintendent Elizabeth Fagen noted the playgrounds and fitness equipment will be available for public use when school is not in session.

“We want to make sure that we are reinvesting into every community and maintaining those property values,” Fagen said in an Oct. 31 news release. “We already have great schools. People want to be here for that, but we also want them to have wonderful places that they can play together with their families.”

Additionally, trustees approved the selection of BRW Architects for design improvements to Timberwood Middle School, which were also included in the May bond. Improvements to the campus will include a new gym, an expanded band space, and career and technical education upgrades.
