Johnson was slated to assume the position May 23. He succeeds former Director Charles Jackson, who resigned in mid-April to accept a position at Rescued Pets Movement, county officials said.
Johnson is the latest in a rotating cast of directors hired for the shelter since fall 2015, when Montgomery County terminated its contract with Care Corporation in an effort to improve conditions at the shelter.
Johnson previously served as the medical services manager for the Houston Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care. He has 15 years of experience in roles related to animal shelters, veterinary services and animal control, county officials said.
