1. Charolais by Chef Austin Simmons opens in The Woodlands featuring customized steak boards
Charolais by Chef Austin Simmons is now open in The Woodlands at Hughes Landing, according to a July 14 news release from Howard Hughes Communities.
Simmons was formerly executive chef of TRIS in The Woodlands, which closed in January 2025. Community Impact previously reported Simmons planned for the new restaurant to specialize in high-quality beef produced through a program focusing on genetics and sustainable animal husbandry.

2. Construction to begin in late July on Valley Ranch's H-E-B-anchored Commerce District
Officials with developer The Signorelli Co. unveiled plans for Valley Ranch's Commerce District via a July 14 news release.
Located on 55 acres southwest of the intersection of Hwy. 59 and the Grand Parkway, the Commerce District will feature 400,000 square feet of commercial development and a 600-unit luxury multifamily community. Per the release, the district will be constructed in two phases, with roadway and utility infrastructure already in place.
Commerce West, the first phase, will be anchored by a new 120,000-square-foot H-E-B, as previously reported by Community Impact.

3. Houston Airport System welcomes more than 4M passengers during FIFA World Cup
Houston Airport System welcomed an estimated 4.5 million passengers during the period in which Houston hosted 2026 FIFA World Cup games, according to a July 9 news release.
Officials noted nearly 1.8 million departing passengers were screened by Transportation Security Administration officials at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport during the 25-day travel period, per the release.
Additionally, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials processed more than 439,000 international passengers at IAH and Hobby from June 12-July 3, the release states.

4. Five Spring-Klein area restaurants to participate in Houston Restaurant Weeks
From Aug. 1-Sept. 7, Houston foodies are invited to dine out and support local restaurants participating in Houston Restaurant Weeks in an effort to raise funds for the Houston Food Bank.
Participating restaurants were announced July 15, and several restaurants in the Spring-Klein area are part of the program, including:

- BRIX Restaurant, 110 Vintage Park Blvd., Houston
- Gauchos Do Sul Brazilian Steakhouse, 126 Vintage Park Blvd., Houston

Bob Harvey officially stepped into Magnolia’s city administrator role July 14, marking both his first day on the job and his first City Council meeting in the position.
City Council extended an offer to Harvey following a decision made after an executive session during its June 9 meeting.
Although July 14 was technically his first day, Harvey said he had already spent time attending meetings and becoming familiar with city operations during the hiring process.

6. Compassion United opens 2 transitional homes, expanding housing capacity
Compassion United celebrated the opening of two new transitional homes July 13 at its Miracle City campus in Conroe, more than doubling the nonprofit’s residential capacity for people working toward long-term independence.
The nonprofit’s previous transitional homes had space for 10 men and four women. With the new additions, Compassion United will increase its capacity from 14 to 32 residents once the homes are occupied, Director of Communications Jessica Clark said.
One home will serve up to 16 men, while the other will serve up to 16 women. Each roughly 3,000-square-foot home will also have a live-in house manager who will provide support to residents.

7. Cy-Fair Fire Department Fire Chief to perform self-evaluation
Cy-Fair Fire Department Fire Chief Amy Ramon will perform a self-evaluation using a template reviewed by the Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9 board of commissioners.
Harris County ESD 9 serves as a political subdivision and taxing entity that supports fire suppression and emergency medical service operations for CFFD.
Originally discussed at the June 25 regular meeting, Commissioner Cameron Dickey said a committee has been fine-tuning a performance evaluation tool for CFFD, as previously reported by Community Impact.
