Work is winding down on a project that will bring high-speed fiber internet to thousands of Humble residents and business owners, company officials announced in an April 16 news release.
About the project
Based in North Carolina, Brightspeed is the third-largest fiber builder in the U.S. with a network serving more than 7.3 million homes and businesses across 20 states, per the release. The company broke ground on the Humble expansion project in April 2025, as previously reported by Community Impact.
Roughly one year later, officials noted the project was about 90% complete as of April 16, with Brightspeed Fiber Internet already available for more than 42,000 Harris County homes and businesses.
The impact
Humble Mayor Norman Funderburk said the expansion project has been transformative for the city.
"Over the past year, we've seen firsthand how reliable, high-speed fiber internet can transform a small town like ours," Funderburk said in a statement. "It's not just about faster connections, it's about new opportunities for our local businesses, better access to education and health care and the ability to keep our community connected to the world."
Darian Ortiz, the owner of The Rowdy Chick—a boutique in Downtown Humble—said the new service has positively impacted her business operations.
"As a Brightspeed Fiber Internet customer, the difference has been pivotal in running my business successfully," The Rowdy Chick owner Darian Ortiz said in a statement. "Our internet is faster and more reliable than ever, which has made running my day-to-day operations so much easier. It's been a game-changer for my business."
What's next
Brightspeed officials noted they are now moving into the final phase of the expansion project. Upon completion, the network will span 46,000 Harris County homes and businesses.
