Tarrant County nonprofits receive grant money to reduce homelessness

Several organizations and nonprofits across North Texas recently received grants totaling $50 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care Program. This money is intended to help reduce homelessness in the Dallas-Fort Worth area through efforts of nonprofit organizations.

The details

Tarrant County nonprofits received a total of $19.68 million. Organizations that received money include:

• Center for Transforming Lives
• Day Resource Center for the Homeless
• Dunes LGBT Homeless Solutions Foundation
• Fort Worth Housing Solutions
• Housing Authority of the City of Arlington
• MHMR of Tarrant County
• Presbyterian Night Shelter
• Recovery Resource Council
• Resources Inspiring Success and Empowering
• SafeHaven of Tarrant County
• Seasons of Change
• Tarrant County
• Tarrant County Homeless Coalition
• Tarrant County Samaritan Housing

“Homelessness in Texas is on the rise, and higher costs on everything from rent to utilities to groceries have made it even harder for these individuals to get back on their feet,” Sen. John Cornyn said in a news release. “This funding will give those on the front lines of this crisis in the metroplex the tools to help Texans secure permanent housing and achieve their long-term goals.”

Nonprofit organizations in neighboring Denton, Collin, Dallas and Parker counties received money from this grant as well.
