MTU Maintenance, which provides maintenance, repair and overhaul of various commercial and military airplane engines, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 8 for the grand opening of a $120 million investment at its Fort Worth location.
The details
Located at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport, MTU invested in modernizing and upgrading a 463,000-square-foot facility in the AllianceTexas development.
MTU Maintenance is under the umbrella of German-based MTU Aero Engines. The company provides jet engine overhaul and maintenance on commercial and military aircraft engines, according to previous reporting.
The Fort Worth facility will have maintenance services for the General Electric Next-generation engine and offered the first look at the start of operations of the CFM International LEAP 1B engine, which belongs to Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aéreas, according to a news release.
“We are proud to continue our long-standing partnership with MTU as we celebrate this milestone,” said Albert Pérez, GOL’s chief operating officer. “MTU’s technical expertise and tailored support are crucial to our operations. We rely on their services to ensure the highest reliability and performance for our fleet.”
GOL, a low-cost carrier out of Brazil, operates more than 60 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, according to a news release.
Zooming in
MTU has been in North Texas since 2011 and in the Alliance area since 2023. It signed a 30-year lease with the city of Fort Worth for use of space at the airport. According to previous reporting, the lease will run through June 30, 2054.
The expansion will focus on disassembly, assembly and test capabilities, according to a news release.
Gernot Sell, MTU Maintenance Fort Worth's managing director, said staffing will grow to more than 1,200 employees once the site is fully “ramped up.” An onsite training academy already is in place.
According to a news release, the project will also support an additional 2,000 indirect jobs throughout the region.
“We are extremely proud of all our team has achieved in a short space of time and look forward to seeing our facility, the team and our customer base grow significantly in the coming years,” Sell said.
