Construction on a new parking garage in downtown Roanoke is scheduled to start Feb. 23 and bring 430 parking spots to Oak Street, according to a news release from the city of Roanoke.

The parking garage will be located on 0.902 acres at 102 S. US 377. The current parking lot will close Feb. 21 to allow for fencing and erosion control installation, per the release.
Construction is anticipated to finish in March 2027, Public Engagement Manager Sandra Pettigrew said.

Additionally, equipment and supplies will be staged at the lot just north of American National Bank & Trust, which is located at 409 S. Oak St.

The parking garage will be five stories tall and cost the city $22 million, which will be paid for using a certificate of obligations bond, Community Impact previously reported.
The new parking structure will help the city address a parking issue based on a traffic study that was completed for Oak Street in 2019.
