Trophy Club Town Council suspends Oncor rate increases for 90 days

The Trophy Club Town Council voted to suspend Oncor Electric Delivery Company’s recent increase in electricity rates.

At its June 14 meeting, the Town Council approved a resolution that suspends the effective date of the price increases, which is June 17. According to the agenda item’s memo, Oncor filed an application May 13 to increase systemwide transmission and distribution rates by about $251 million, or 4.5% over present revenues.

Oncor specifically asked for an 11.2% increase in residential rates and a 1.6% increase in street lighting rates, the memo states. With these increases, a residential customer using 1,300 kilowatt hours per month would see a bill increase of about $6.02 per month.

With the Town Council’s approval, Oncor’s rate increases will be suspended for 90 days starting after the June 17 effective date, according to the memo.

During this time, the town will work in conjunction with the Steering Committee of Cities Served by Oncor—of which Trophy Club is a member—to “evaluate the filing, determine whether the filing complies with law, and if lawful, to determine what further strategy, including settlement, to pursue,” the memo states.

The city councils in other cities, such as Princeton, Wylie and Mineral Wells, have also recently voted to suspend the price increases, according to local news reports.

“Although Oncor has increased rates many times over the past few years, this is the first comprehensive base rate case for [Oncor] since March 2017,” according to the memo.
