The Tarrant County Homeless Coalition released the 2023 State of the Homeless report March 31 that shows an increase the past two years.
While 2020 saw a decrease in homelessness due to COVID-19 housing and relief programs, according to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, the homeless population in Tarrant County is up 22% year over year, according to a city of Fort Worth press release.
The comprehensive report details the scope of homelessness across Tarrant County, what has been done in a year to assist this underserved community and how to further address issues that cause homelessness. According to the press release:
- More than 2,700 people across Tarrant County are experiencing homelessness.
- 1,000 of those are unsheltered.
- 1,400 are in emergency shelters.
