Fort Bend County officials urge locals to stay off flooded roadways

Fort Bend County officials are closely monitoring Tropical Depression Beta as of Sept. 22.

County Judge KP George is urging the community to stay off of flooded roadways.

“Our emergency management personnel, law enforcement, first responders, and so many are working 24/7,” George said in a Sept. 22 Facebook update. “If we avoid getting on the roads until [Tropical Depression] Beta passes, they don’t have to risk their lives to rescue us. Be smart. Be safe.”

Significant flash and urban flooding is happening through Sept. 22 for the middle and upper Texas coast, according to the National Hurricane Center and Central Pacific Hurricane Center.

“We are constantly in contact with National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center and all our local communities,” George said at a Sept. 21 press conference.

Although county officials are prepared for any damage that can occur, George urged the public to remain cautious.

George further reminded the public that Tropical Storm Allison in 2001 left the area with over 40 inches of rain and left over 30,000 people homeless and 41 people dead.
