Katy Fire Chief resigns, city mayor says in a press release

Katy Fire Chief Russell Wilson resigned Friday, Oct. 9, according to a city of Katy press release.

Wilson's last day will be Oct. 23, and Assistant Fire Chief Kenneth Parker will be the interim fire chief for the city, according to the press release.

There were no further details released by the city regarding the reason for Wilson's resignation.

Wison has served in the Katy Fire Department since 2016 and previously worked as an assistant fire chief in Irving for nine years, he told Community Impact Newspaper in a previous interview.

During his time with KFD, Wilson brought a comprehensive mental health initiative called Operation Resilience Program to the men and women in the department. It included a peer support program, family days, workshops and evidence-based training on coping techniques for PTSD.

Operation Resilience placed KFD among the less than 2% of fire departments across the U.S. that provide a comprehensive mental health program.
