Houston chosen to host Texas' inaugural Michelin Guide ceremony

Michelin collaborated with marketing organization Houston First and Travel Texas, part of the Texas Economic Development and Tourism office, to choose Houston for the inaugural Michelin Guide Texas ceremony, according to a Sept. 30 news release.

Although a venue has not yet been selected, the ceremony will take place the evening of Nov. 11, according to the release.

The release refers to Houston as "one of the United States' most dynamic food scenes boasting world-class dining," making it "the perfect fit" for the first Texas ceremony.

Chefs will be invited to discover whether their restaurants have received a Michelin Star or another Michelin Guide distinction, per the release. Attendance is by invitation only.

Micheal Heckman, president and CEO of Houston First, said in the release the guide's arrival in Texas presents a unique opportunity to showcase the state's complex and sophisticated culinary scene.

"And there’s no better place to launch the Michelin Guide Texas than right here in Houston, the nation’s most diverse city, home to more than 10,000 restaurants and some of the culinary community’s brightest stars,” Heckman said. “Over the last two decades, our city has emerged as a food mecca, fostering skilled hometown chefs and restaurateurs while simultaneously drawing exceptional talent from across the globe."
