Vegetarian restaurant Simply South to open in Katy
A new location of Indian restaurant Simply South is coming to Katy in July, owner Sree Gummadi confirmed.
The restaurant, which will be located at 24600 Katy Freeway, Ste. 1020, features vegetarian dishes from throughout India including a range of soups, curries, biryani, as well as desserts and chai, according to its website. Breakfast options are also available.
Sandwich shop serving New York delicatessen sandwiches opens in Katy
Sandwich shop NY Tozt, which serves authentic New York delicatessen sandwiches, opened its doors Jan. 18 at 9006 S. Fry Road, Ste. B, in Katy.
Along with sandwiches, NY Tozt’s menu offers shawarma, burgers, pressed paninis and vegetarian options, per the eatery's website.
Lamar CISD’s property value growth expected to increase to 4.5% for 2026-27 school year
Lamar CISD’s proposed property value has increased to 4.5%, building upon the April announcement that the school district would go into the 2026-27 school year with a balanced budget, Chief Financial Officer Greg Buchanan said at a May 19 meeting.
Since the April budget presentation, Buchanan told LCISD’s board of trustees the district has received its certified preliminary property values, which showed the district’s property value growth grew from 3% to 4.5%.
Lamar CISD approves rezoning options for new Fulshear secondary schools
In preparation for the opening of Williams High, Urbanski Junior High and Dresner Middle schools for the 2027-28 school year, Lamar CISD’s board of trustees approved rezoning options for the new Fulshear secondary schools at its May 19 meeting.
Jonathan Maxwell, executive director of enrollment management for LCISD, said the chosen option uses the newly created school zones for Slawinski and Cantu elementary schools to limit the number of elementary schools that would be split zoned between the purple track and the new track for secondary grades, with Haygood Elementary the only one being split.
Legacy Park at Katy Court to bring 56-acre nature-forward park
Parkside Capital has broken ground on Legacy Park at Katy Court, which integrates stormwater management with immersive outdoor experiences, officials announced in a May 13 news release.
The 56-acre detention and regional park amenity, which is slated to open in spring 2027, will serve as the centerpiece of the Legacy Prairie at Katy Court community featuring a nature-based playground, floating boardwalk, shaded seating areas and interactive educational moments.
Data shows Katy ISD students are outperforming national peers in elementary reading, math
Assessment data shows Katy ISD elementary students are doing better than the national average in reading and math. At a March 30 meeting, Katy ISD officials shared an update on the first-year rollout for the Northwest Evaluation Association for measures of academic progress, or NWEA MAP, assessments.
Median percentiles from achievement results show Katy ISD kindergarten through fifth grade students collectively did better than the nationwide average of 50% in reading and math during 2025 assessments.
