A Dallas-based charter school called International Leadership of Texas will be coming to Katy. The new 90,000-square-foot school will be built at Porter and Franz roads and cost between $23 million and $25 million. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2016. The charter school emphasizes leadership skills and students learn English, Spanish and Chinese. Developers broke ground for the new school Jan. 7. Those who apply to IL Texas are accepted. If more applicants apply for a certain grade level than is allowable, admissions for that grade level will be based on a lottery.
Katy will be home to a new private school campus the British International School of Houston, at the intersection of North Westgreen Boulevard and Franz Road. The school will open in the fall of 2016 and is expected to enroll between 820 and 1,000 students. The school has a partnership with The Juliard School in New York City. Features of the new campus include an indoor swimming pool and a theater.
KISD boundary changes were made to fill three new schools opening in 2016 and relieve crowding at two elementary schools. The changes do not affect any schools east of the Grand Parkway and north of I-10. A new junior high school and a new elementary school will be built in the southwest part of Katy while another new elementary school will be north of I-10 and west of the Grand Parkway.
