Lamar CISD students outscored state averages in every subject in the 2026 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness exams administered this spring to grades third through eighth and STAAR end-of-course assessments administered to high schoolers.
Some context
The Texas Education Agency released statewide and district-specific test scores for the STAAR math, reading and social studies exams June 16 and the STAAR EOC Algebra I, English I, English II, biology and U.S. History exams June 10. STAAR science scores will be released July 31.
The TEA uses a four-tiered grading system for student performance to score STAAR test performance in each subject:
- Did not meet grade level
- Approaches grade level
- Meets grade level
- Masters grade level
"Approaches grade level" is considered a passing score, with the TEA determining that students with this score are likely to succeed in the next grade or course, but could need targeted academic intervention.

Data shows Lamar CISD students performed above or at the state average in all 18 subjects this spring. Meanwhile, district students saw equal or improved performance year-over-year in all exams except:
- Third grade math
- Third grade reading
- Fourth grade reading
- Sixth grade reading
- U.S. History
What they’re sayingIn a statement, Lamar CISD Superintendent Roosevelt Nivens said he is proud of the progress students and educators continue to make across the district.
“These results reflect the hard work taking place every day in our classrooms and the unwavering commitment of our teachers, campus leaders, support staff, students and families,” Nivens said. “While we celebrate this growth, we also recognize that our work is never finished. We remain committed to continuous improvement and ensuring every student has the support and opportunities needed to achieve at high levels."
