The Katy ISD board of trustees will soon be without its longest-serving member.
What residents need to know
At a July 27 meeting, board member Rebecca Fox announced her Oct. 12 departure from the Katy ISD board of trustees, citing her desire to spend more time with her family.
Fox, who originally planned to step down from her position in 2027 when her term ended, said she made her decision public now to give the district and board “ample time” to prepare for this transition.

Fox was first elected to the board in 2004 and served until 2019 before being reelected in 2021, according to the district’s website. She has held every officer position, including serving as president three times.
“Serving on this board is not just something that I do, it’s who I am,” Fox said. “It has changed me. Something I am so proud of, not for me, but for all of us. The changes that have happened in 21 years—it’s so incredible.”

Board President Lance Redmon said there is still work to be done before Fox leaves in October.
“We’ve talked about this a lot over the past few days, so I’m not in shock,” Redmon said. “Although, I think some people are probably surprised to hear that today and we have several more meetings like you said—so this isn’t goodbye.”

With Fox’s term slated to end in May, Redmon said board leadership will meet to come up with a recommendation and bring the item back for review at a later meeting.
Fox said she plans to take down her website, close her campaign account and donate the remaining funds to the Katy ISD Education Foundation.
