Harris County Precinct 4 residents are invited to help document diverse species at local parks by participating in the City Nature Challenge, an annual international nature survey, which takes place in more than 190 cities worldwide.

According to an April 20 news release, Precinct 4 residents are asked to take part in the challenge by documenting species that inhabit Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve and Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center, from April 24-27. According to the release, data gathered during the challenge will help researchers, land managers and policymakers track biodiversity and develop effective land management practices.

While City Nature Challenge events are canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, residents can still document species while following social distancing guidelines.

Those interested in participating can get started by downloading the iNaturalist app and visiting a local park.
