Zooming out
The SJRA monitors water quality in the San Jacinto basin, provides water to municipal utility districts and other entities, and operates the Lake Conroe Dam.
Jace Houston, the former general manager, submitted his resignation at a May 25 special meeting, Community Impact previously reported. In an email to SJRA staff provided to Community Impact, Houston outlined his decision to resign and stated his resignation was in “an effort to achieve what I believe will be the best outcome for SJRA, our board, our customers, the state of Texas, and the resolution of the ongoing controversy.”
The details
- A transition committee has been created and is made up of the three most senior members of the SJRA board—Ronnie Anderson, Ed Boulware and Mark Micheletti.
- Lehman and Associates LLC was selected as the executive search firm to search for a candidate to fill the general manager position.
- The board also adopted a resolution recognizing Houston for his work at the SJRA.
What they’re saying
- “There are times when fewer words are better than a longer speech, and so I’m going to reduce my comments about Jace to a verse found in Matthew 25:23, and that says, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant,’” Board President Ronnie Anderson said.
- “He’s probably the most competent river authority GM in the state,” Board Secretary Wil Faubel said. “He’s humble. He’s very communicative. ... He’s got a very warm personality and outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills. I’m a much better person as a result of our association.”
- “I appreciate so so much the support, the kind words, the affirmation,” Houston said. “It’s been wonderful, and I just love everybody for it.”
