Interfaith of The Woodlands announced the individuals and organizations that will be named 2026 Hometown Heroes, an award established by the nonprofit in 1999.

According to a news release from Interfaith, the designation celebrates those who exemplify "leadership, compassion and a commitment to making The Woodlands a better place."

The 2026 awardees include four individuals, a couple , a nonprofit and a corporation.

The 2026 Hometown Heroes are:
  • Jim Carman, president of Howard Hughes Houston region
  • Laran Cone, who began a Kids’ Meals program in Montgomery County
  • Elvira Graham and Lonny Soza, philanthropists who have worked with many area organizations
  • Michelle Little, vice president of Community Affairs and Corporate Giving at Waste Connections
  • John Powers, retired assistant general manager for community services in The Woodlands
  • In the Pink of Health, which supports education, awareness and services relating to the fight against breast and ovarian cancer
  • Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital
Nominations were gathered from the community and selected by a panel of former honorees, according to Interfaith. The qualities demonstrated by Hometown Heroes include:
  • Demonstrating exceptional leadership
  • Serving as a positive role model
  • Dedicating time and energy to volunteerism
  • Willingness to sacrifice personal gain in pursuit of noble goals
  • Embody the core values of The Woodlands community

The designees will be celebrated at the 2026 Celebration of Excellence Gala, which is presented by Woodforest National Bank and Huntsman and chaired by Linsey Bibler, on Feb. 13, according to the release.

“Our community continues to shine because of the extraordinary individuals whose selfless service strengthens The Woodlands as a place to live, work, play and pray," said Missy Herndon, president and CEO of Interfaith of The Woodlands, in the release. "This year’s Heroes, nominated by their neighbors, embody exceptional leadership, compassion and commitment to others. We are truly honored to celebrate their impact at the Gala this February."
