The Woodlands Township board of directors at a Nov. 19 meeting adopted Event Center rental fees and swore in new and returning board members, among other business.

Items worth mentioning

The board voted to adopt a $5,000 daily Event Center rental fee for the weeks between the closing of The Ice Rink at The Woodlands Town Center on Jan. 19 and about seven weeks later when the Cynthia Woods Michelle Pavillion resumes management of the space at 2005 Lake Robbins Drive, according to discussion at the meeting.

The adoption of the fee is a formality to be able to advertise the availability of the rental space, said John McGowan, the director of Parks and Recreation for The Woodlands Township.

Also on the agenda

The board swore in Adam Lamb as the newest board director after he won the election for Position 6 on Nov. 4. Ann Snyder, who had previously held the position and had served on the board since 2015, did not seek re-election.

Board members Shelley Sekula-Gibbs and Cindy Heiser, who were uncontested in the Nov. 4 race, were also sworn in to their positions on the board.

The newly elected members were also appointed to The Woodlands’ Economic Development Zone board of directors.

Looking ahead

The board interviewed three out of the five candidates for township’s Development Standards Committee, which enforces standards governing residential and commercial property use, at the meeting. Incumbents Arthur Bredehoft, who is the current chair, and John Brown were present and made their case before the board to be reappointed.

Robert Reuter, a Cochran’s Crossing’s resident who moved to the area in 2017 from Michigan and has a history in automotives, also interviewed for the role.

Roger Goertz, a Sterling Ridge resident, and Midred Pombo, a College Park resident, were two candidates absent from the board meeting. Information about each candidate for the DSC is available on the township website.

The board will vote on the two candidates, who will serve a two-year term starting in January, in their Dec. 4 meeting.
