The city of Shenandoah will celebrate its 50th anniversary during an April 13 event from 4-7 p.m. in the Woodforest Stadium parking lot.

Two-minute impact

City Administrator Kathie Reyer said the city will host a festival with food and beverages from several local restaurants and businesses, a children’s activity area, live music and a car show. There will also be memorabilia on display including historic photos from over the years.

The city is reaching out to long-time residents to share their stories and memories about living in Shenandoah, especially from those who have lived in Shenandoah for 30 years or more.

Residents are encouraged to send any old photos of Shenandoah or upload photos on the city's website.

Quote of note

Council member Charlie Bradt has lived in the city of Shenandoah since 1980. He said in the last 40 years he has seen the city grow into its own self-starting city.

"When the city started it was just a sleepy little bedroom community and the feeder was only two lanes," he said. "Look at it now. We want to constantly build the city up. We're lucky for what got us here, but we are still growing so we have a lot to celebrate for in April, and we look forward to the next 50 years"
