A new $10.8 million fine arts education building at The Woodlands Christian Academy opened for the start of the the school year Aug. 13. The 22,585-square-foot building, named The Benjamin Wells School of the Arts, has the largest black box theater in the Houston area, Head of School Julie Ambler said.

The new building is one of 12 buildings on the 40-acre campus.

The overview

The building includes classrooms and features such as:
  • A 4,225-square-foot black box theater
  • A choir hall
  • A dance studio
  • A band hall
  • An art studio
  • Spaces to display student artwork
The school, which serves grades K-12, is also constructing an outdoor amphitheater for student concerts, and it will be completed this fall, school officials said.

"Our goal is to provide a state-of-the-art learning center where students can explore multiple avenues of creative expression," Ambler said.


Quote of note

Choir teacher Bret Parker, who has been with the school for two years, said he looks forward to performances in the new spaces.

"I think it's cool to see how much our school values the arts," Parker said. "We're super excited to get started, start putting on concerts, start showing off the kids and what they're able to do because we have a lot of super talented kids."

By the numbers


According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, total enrollment at the school was 699 in the 2021-22 school year. For the 2024-25 school year, 860 students are enrolled, according to an Aug. 9 news release, marking a 23% increase.
