Lone Star College has reported that compared to last year, it has seen an increase in student enrollment for the spring semester, which goes against a national trend.

According to a press release from LSC, 82,646 students enrolled in spring 2021 compared to 82,111 in spring 2020, showing a 0.65% increase. The data comes from the spring 2021 LSC Official Day reports and represents credit enrollment only.

“We realize we are living in extraordinary times and understand we all have to do more to help each other,” LSC Chancellor Stephen Head said in the release. “Lone Star College faculty, staff and administrators remain committed to providing high-quality education in a safe and responsible manner.”

The press release states that enrollment in Texas community colleges fell 7.1% from fall 2019 to fall 2020, according to the latest data available. Nationally, community college enrollment dropped 9.5% as reported by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.

At this time, anyone entering a LSC building is required to wear a mask and undergo a temperature check.
