On July 6, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced rules for foreign exchange students living in the country that would not allow them to stay if they are only taking online classes.

According to information from Lone Star College, in the spring semester there were 2,850 international students attending classes from countries including Mexico, Venezuela, Vietnam, El Salvador and Honduras.

Kyle Scott, the LSC vice chancellor of strategic priorities, said at this time the college's legal team is evaluating the impact the ICE ruling will have on the student body.

"We will work to make sure our students remain able to take classes while conforming to new rules and regulations," Scott said.

LSC recently announced reopening plans for its fall semester, which will include a combination of online, in-person and hybrid classes for students to take part in.
