Alex Gardner and Aleks Meeker, the owners of Press Waffle Co. at Creekside Park West, were previously enthusiastic guests of the establishment before taking over the local location of the franchise in December.

Gardner said the first time he and Meeker visited the Press Waffle Co. they would come to own, it was a late night, and they had come from a previous restaurant. “It was like we had stumbled across gold,” Gardner said. “The atmosphere hit us, and then we saw the menu, and it was all great options. I came back the very next morning and got a breakfast waffle then.”

Meeker said initial conversations about owning a franchise of Press Waffle Co. started in April 2021, and they met with the cofounder in July. The Woodlands location initially opened in 2020.

“We fell in love with the concept with the place and the aesthetics,” Meeker said. “We had been bringing friends and family here ... and [Gardner’s] sister joked that we should buy one of these.”

Gardner and Meeker said they have been enjoying the undertaking and have plans to add events to their location.

Local touch

Gardner and Meeker said there are two waffle options on the menu that are unique to The Woodlands location: The Houstonian and The Buckaroo.

Both waffles were created by the location’s previous owners, and Gardner and Meeker said they are encouraged to make their own twists on menu items.

Meeker said the location also serves coffee from neighboring Perks Beanery in Tomball.

“The idea is ... that you support local breweries and coffee places to make a community,” Meeker said. Sharing the passion

Both Gardner and Meeker said owning a franchise of an existing business was what they wanted to do to get a better understanding of how the industry works as well as becoming their own bosses.

“What we liked about this one is that it is still kind of in the baby steps,” Meeker said. “We can contribute to its growth.”

They said it also helps that they are the owners of something they are passionate about, and it is a passion they want to share with The Woodlands community.

Along with new ownership, Press Waffle Co. was awarded the Best Dessert during the 2022 Taste of the Town event hosted by The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce in late January.
