Giving credit to the Texas music scene and local artists such as Randy Rogers and Brandon Rhyder, Parsons said dance halls in Texas are filled with fresh inspiration.
Can you tell me about your experience as a musician?
It's been a wild ride that I wouldn't change for anything. I've been hungry, I've been broke, I've been heartbroken; you know, all the human things—except I've put them all into songs to use as reminders that we don't stay where we were. I started out playing all over Texas, then tried my luck at Nashville. [I] got what I needed from the town and then got out. I got to open for George Jones at the Arena Theatre in Houston. I've shared buses and planes with country music royalty. I’ve recorded three full-length projects, released an EP in September and we have already started working on the next EP. I've gotten to travel the world and been all over the United States. I've made some fantastic memories and met some of the best people. I love my job, and I feel incredibly grateful to wake up and do this every day. I can't wait to see what's next.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I usually throw myself into an Americana or alternative country realm, but they say a lot of truth is said in jest, and I always joke that the song tells me how it should sound. That's resoundingly true, too. An idea will find you almost fully formed at times, and you take the 30 minutes to however long it needs to get it down on paper. It can come out sounding like an old honky-tonk or ’90s alternative. You really never know. But I've always stood by—if the song has chosen you to create it, then write it however it tells you to. You never know who it’s going to reach out to, touch, and maybe change their whole perspective for the day, and pull them out of some bottomless, dark emotional pit.
As a local artist serving the North Houston area, what is the message that you would like to give to the community or your fans in the area?
I can't thank y'all enough for always supporting me, whether it's coming to a show ... tipping me, commenting on my social media or streaming my music. Y’all make it all possible, and this whole journey would be nothing without you. Come give me a big hug soon, and I can't wait to see you.
