Sugar Land City Council approved a $2.5 million drainage project to alleviate Riverbend street flooding.

Sugar Land voters approved the project back in 2019 with Sugar Land City Council promising to put four general obligation bonds totaling $90.76 million toward the project.

Riverbend, an area prone to flooding when it rains, will see the new drainage project be carried out from May to November. This will cause road closures and delays in traffic during the months of construction.

The general obligation bond propositions’ funds will cover the construction of a new storm sewer system, repairs and improvements for the current one, inlet replacements and a new concrete roadway.

Residents who want to be notified of road closures, detours or the construction timeline can check the city’s website, social media or their homeowners association or wait to be notified by mail or flier.
