Officials have announced the opening date of the new Velvet Taco opening in Sugar Land Town Center.

The new 3,110-square-foot restaurant will seat 89 indoors and 34 on the patio, and is expected to create about 50 jobs across all positions, according to a Sept. 4 news release.

“From lunch breaks to late nights, we want to be part of the everyday rhythm of Sugar Land,” Sugar Land General Manager Shawn Najvar said in the release. “Bold tacos, good vibes and a patio to match—that’s what we’re bringing to the neighborhood.”

Velvet Taco is a fast-casual restaurant that serves tacos with global flavors, fine-dining quality and fresh, scratch-made ingredients, per the release.


Menu offerings include:
  • Burritos, bowls and taco with options like Spicy Tikka, Bacon Smash Burger and Mexi-Cali Shrimp
  • Elote, or Mexican street corn, guacamole as well as queso and salsa dips
  • Red Velvet cake with cheese cake frosting and cajeta, or Mexican caramel, drizzle
  • Margaritas, sangrita and other cocktails

The nationwide franchise has seven other locations in the Houston area, including in Webster, The Woodlands, and Hobby Airport, Community Impact reported.

Nearby locations include the Galleria location at 2626 W. Loop South, Houston and 10201 Katy Fwy., Ste. 100, Memorial City, per the website.

About the grand opening


The first 50 guests at the restaurant will receive free Velvet Taco hats, per the release. Additionally, guests who join The Velvet Room loyalty program and make a purchase before Sept. 21 will receive a free taco reward for their next visit.
