The Harris County Public Library system is one of 10 entities honored nationwide by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for outstanding community service, according to a May 21 news release.

HCPL was awarded the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service alongside the Children’s Museum Houston and other organizations across the U.S.

The 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service winners were chosen from 30 national finalists, according to the release. Award recipients offer “dynamic programming and services that exceed expected levels of service” for their communities, according to the release.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is a federal agency that supports libraries and museums across the U.S., according to the organization's website.
