Following the conclusion of the candidate filing period for the upcoming Nov. 8 election, four candidates have filed to run for two Klein ISD trustee positions up for election this fall, district officials confirmed Aug. 30.

The candidate filing period for KISD trustee positions 6 and 7—held by Board Secretary Cathy M. Arellano and Vice President Rob Ellis, respectively—opened July 25 and closed at 5 p.m. Aug. 22.

Arellano was first elected to the KISD board of trustees in 2016 and was re-elected in 2019 after running unopposed. Ellis was first elected to the board of trustees in 2019. Both incumbents will be seeking re-election in the Nov. 8 election, according to KISD officials.

Challengers Kristin Cobb and Jack "Joaquin" Velasquez also filed for candidacy in the Nov. 8 election and will be running for positions 6 and 7, respectively. Cobb previously ran for Position 5 on the KISD board of trustees but lost to incumbent Ronnie K. Anderson in November 2021.

According to the KISD website, each member of the board of trustees is elected to an at-large position for three years in a nonpartisan election. For more information on how Texas school boards function, click here.
