The Big Salad, a Michigan-based fast-casual restaurant, will open its first two locations in Texas in Richmond and Spring.
A restaurant will open Sept. 6 at 20400 Southwest Freeway, Richmond, and a Spring location in The Market at Springwoods Village, between the Grand Parkway and Spring Stuebner Road, is planned for March.
The restaurant chain offers customized salads, sandwiches, soups and wraps, which are prepared in front of the customer, The Big Salad President John Bornoty said.
Salads can be prepared as a traditional salad or as a wrap, and 18 dressings are available, Bornoty said.
Jalapeno, spicy ranch and wasabi dressings are being added to the menu for the Houston locations, he said.
“One of the things we’ve learned in Texas is that Texans love their spice,” he said.
The Big Salad decided to expand to Texas because the climate was a good fit for the chain’s light dining options, Bornoty said.
In addition to customized salads, the chain offers traditional varieties including Caesar, wedge, apple walnut, club and California salads, and sandwich varieties include cranberry turkey, tuna salad, Italian and chicken Caesar.
