IMPACT UPDATE:
Sun’s Wholesale Club opened its second location at 3645 FM 1960 W., Houston, on Aug. 1. The 125,000-square-foot, membership-based store sells restaurant supplies, fresh groceries, frozen seafood, electronic appliances and international foods.
The FM 1960 store and shopping center previously housed a Walmart, which moved across the street.
The original Sun’s Wholesale Club is located at 8388 W. Sam Houston Parkway S., Houston.
“We’ve had a lot of requests to open one on the north side [of Houston],” Sun’s Wholesale Club and shopping center owner Vican Sun said. “We looked for many years until we found a good spot.”
Additional tenants in the shopping center will be a Cy-Fair Pediatrics location, Hou Wei Chinese restaurant, Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Nuong U-me, Ramen Fun noodle shop, The Face Shop cosmetics store, King Diamond jewelry store, Kung Fu Tea shop, Blue Ocean Smoothies, La Ca Smoothie Tapioca Coffee, Buzz Liquor and Metro PCS. Most of the tenants will be open in September, and a grand opening for the shopping center will be held in early 2017, Sun said.
Other Impacts:
An all-you-can-eat Caribbean buffet restaurant, Taste of the Caribbean, opened July 26 at 13331 Kuykendahl Road, Ste. 117, Spring. The buffet-style restaurant serves lunch and dinners featuring Caribbean specialties like curry chicken, potato salad, macaroni pie and callaloo, a spinach-based dish popular in the Caribbean. 631-633-0054. www.tasteofthecaribbeanusa.com
MC Barbeque & Southern Kitchen opened at MainStreet America, 18750 I-45 N., Houston, and operates daily from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the main building. The restaurant specializes in Southern cooking and smoky flavors led by Executive Chef Lawrence Fogarty. MainStreet America is a custom builder showcase with 12 showroom homes, and the facility also houses a cooking school and conference center.
