The city of Pearland closed its city facilities beginning Aug. 26 in anticipation of Hurricane Laura. They will reopen to the public Aug. 31.

Pearland Mayor Tom Reid signed a disaster declaration Aug. 25. The declaration, which came the day after Brazoria County Judge Matt Sebesta signed a disaster declaration for the county, began Aug. 25 and will last through Aug. 31. However, Brazoria County officials now think the damage to the county will be minimal, according to a press release from the county.

According to the city's website, the declaration not only shows solidarity with Abbott's declaration, but it also enables city staff to offer essential services through the duration of the storm.
