The city of Pearland is closing Hughes Ranch Road from Cullen Boulevard to North Hampton Drive on May 26, according to a press release from the city. The section of road will be closed for at least a few months, according to city officials.

The segment will be used for construction vehicles and equipment as well as sewer line construction, according to the release.

Nonresidential traffic will be detoured around Hughes Ranch. Drivers will not be able to access Cullen by Hughes Ranch at this time. Residents who live on Brookney Street, West Sterling Drive, Linda Lane, Crystal Lake and Hughes Ranch will be able to access their properties from the west, according to the release.

According to the press release, here are some alternate routes:

  • East- and westbound traffic to and from Hwy. 288 can use Broadway Street or McHard Road.

  • Those seeking access to the west end of Hughes Ranch from Broadway can use Miller Ranch Road.

The Hughes Ranch expansion project broke ground in March 2019 and is expected to wrap up next year. The project will convert the road from a two- to a four-lane road with a median and curbs from Smith Ranch to Cullen.

The expansion is expected to cost $20.5 million and is funded by the city of Pearland.
