Brazoria County’s Precinct 2 commissioner race ended in another victory for Republican incumbent Ryan Cade. No Democrats ran for the position.
“I am humbled and honored to have been re-elected,” Cade told Community Impact Newspaper in a text message late March 1. “We will continue to work hard for the citizens of Brazoria County. We do not take their trust and confidence lightly.”
Cade accumulated 64% of the votes, beating out challenger Dan Davis, who racked up 36% of the total votes.
The race for the Republican nomination for Texas Senate District 11, which did not have an incumbent run, was dominated by Mayes Middleton, who accumulated 62.7% of the vote in a four-candidate ballot. No Democrats ran for the seat.
“Thank you to the voters of Brazoria, Galveston and Harris Counties—I’m honored to be your Republican nominee for state senator, District 11,” Middleton wrote on his Facebook page.
Democrat Mikal Williams gathered 50.2% of the votes, narrowly defeating challenger Eugene Howard. Howard said he will wait until votes are canvassed before deciding whether to call for a recount.
On the Republican side for the 14th District, incumbent Randy Weber racked in 89.1% of the votes to win the nomination. Weber will face either Williams or Howard in the November general election.
Incumbent Ken Clark won the Republican nomination for Galveston County Precinct 4 commissioner with 67.4% of the votes. No Democrats ran for the position.
Incumbent Troy Nehls saw similar success in the Republican nomination race for the 22nd Congressional District, accruing nearly 90% of the votes. The candidate running in the Democratic primary, Jamie Kaye Jordan, ran unopposed. Both candidates will face each other in the November general election.
