Unofficial Election Day results from Galveston and Harris County show voters are in favor of re-authorizing the Friendswood sales and use tax for street repairs and maintenance.

The proposition received 13,506 votes in favor and 6,207 votes against from both counties, with all polling places reporting.

With all polling places reporting in Galveston County, voters are in favor of the city of Friendswood sales and use tax reauthorization. However, not all Harris County votes have been reported.


So far, the proposition has received 13,387 votes for and 6,187 votes against it between the two counties.

Galveston County has reported more votes for the city of Friendswood sales and use tax reauthorization. The proposition has received 9,703 votes for and 4,742 votes against in Galveston County. Harris County still shows 2,927 votes in favor of the proposition and 1,049 against.

Early-voting results are in for the city of Friendswood’s special election to reauthorize the sales maintenance and use tax.

So far, the proposition has 9,689 votes in favor in Galveston County and 2,927 in favor votes for in Harris County. This is out a total of 18,400 votes between the counties, meaning so far, 68.57% of voters are in favor of reauthorizing the sales and use tax.

If passed, the proposition would reauthorize a sales tax at 0.00375% to provide revenue for street maintenance and repairs. This was originally authorized by voters in May 2016.

This item was originally up for re-election in May but was postponed due to the coronavirus.


Results are updated as of 7:45 a.m. and are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified by the county clerk. Under Texas election law, the clerk accepts and counts mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day and received by Nov. 4, if they were sent from inside the U.S., or Nov. 9 if they were sent from outside the U.S.
