The Galveston County Health District the week of Jan. 4 received an additional 400 COVID-19 vaccine doses. As such, the health district is offering the vaccine to those 65 and older by appointment only, according to a Friendswood press release.

The health district’s phone bank is open as of 9 a.m. Jan. 6. Residents can call 409-547-4015 to make an appointment.

According to the health district, more vaccine shipments are expected in the coming weeks. The district plans to expand who is eligible to receive the vaccine as more doses become available, but the vaccines are being offered to those 65 and older because they have an increased risk of developing severe symptoms from COVID-19, according to the release.
