Pearland Mayor Emeritus Tom Reid died June 24, according to a post on the city of Pearland’s Facebook page. He was 97.

“Mayor Reid dedicated 44 years of his life to serving the Pearland community and was always passionate about continuing to develop Pearland because he believed it was a ‘special place,’" Mayor Kevin Cole said in the Facebook post.

Mayor Reid will lay in repose on June 30 from 4-8 p.m. at First Church, 1850 Broadway St., Pearland, where the community can pay their respects. A celebration of life service will be held at First Church on July 1 at 10 a.m.

“The void that is left by Mayor Reid’s passing will never be filled, and he will be sorely missed,” Cole said. “We will continue his legacy and work every day to match his level of dedication for the Pearland community.”
