The backstory
The award recognizes the leadership roles chambers have in their communities and honors chambers that have demonstrated organizational strength and made an impact on key community priorities, such as education, transportation, economic prosperity and quality of life, according to a news release.
Every year, the ACCE awards Chamber of the Year in four categories based on the chamber's size, membership, population and budget, said Jim Johnson, Pearland Chamber of Commerce president and CEO.
Quote of note
“The ACCE Chamber of the Year award recognizes what the Pearland Chamber of Commerce is doing in our community,” Johnson said in the news release. “Our efforts to live our mission, to serve business, promote and empower the community in Pearland allows the Pearland Chamber to be a mission-focused organization that uses data to drive decisions that allow us to manage our members’ expectations so we can create relationships with our businesses and solve community problems.”

To qualify to apply, the chamber had to meet benchmark requirements in five areas, which include net revenue and assets, membership account retention, and membership dollar retention.
In May, the chamber submitted a written application that was scored by peer chamber executives before finding out it was selected as one of three finalists in June. At the conference, chamber officials had to complete an interview with other chamber professionals to be selected as the winner.
