Beverly’s Touch of Class grooming salon first opened in Pearland in October 2001. Now located at 3905 Second St., Pearland, the business is owned by Beverly Wojcik, who has been in the dog-grooming industry for 30 years.

She was first introduced to grooming by a neighbor who offered to teach Wojcik dog grooming in exchange for cooking lessons.

“She was a show groomer, and I apprenticed with her for a year and a half,” Wojcik said. “We went all over, showing her dogs, and it was pretty amazing.”

The business offers grooming for dogs 75 pounds or less, boarding for dogs 25 pounds or less and pet photography.

“Pearland has been a wonderful place to have my business,” Wojcik said. “It’s a close, loving, nurturing community, and my customers are really more like extended family.”

Susie Mendiola, who has worked at Beverly’s Touch of Class for two years, said it is a great experience having customers who are so close.

“People know about each other’s families, vacations, everything,” Mendiola said. “It’s like family walking in.”

Before moving to the newest location, which opened in May last year and was build by Wojcik and her husband, the business had several other locations in the city.

“Owning my own location is a dream I didn’t think was going to happen, but it did,” Wojcik said.

She said getting the permit took around a year and a half, and she almost gave up. Since she has achieved this goal, she said the next step would be considering ways to expand the business.

“You’ll always have a job if you always do a quality job,” Wojcik said. “I always tell people that we’ll love your baby like you love your baby. That’s how we do it here.”
