Pearland Mayor Kevin Cole announced he will run for Brazoria County judge.

The details

After nearly five years of serving as Pearland’s mayor, Cole announced he would be seeking election for Brazoria County judge in an Oct. 9 news release.

Cole said in the release that his campaign would focus on issues of public safety, infrastructure, flood control, property tax relief and smart growth.

“Brazoria County must be ready for the growth ahead as projects like Highway 99 expand and the population continues to rise,” Cole said in the release. “That means improving roads, supporting law enforcement, encouraging job growth, and keeping government transparent and efficient.”

Currently, the seat is held by Brazoria County Judge Matt Sebesta, who is serving his third term in the seat. Sebesta announced in September that he will not seek reelection once his term ends in 2026.

Quote of note

“Making this decision has been a difficult one, but I will still focus on and support the efforts in the city I grew up in and love—the City of Pearland,” Cole said in the release. “But I believe God has a new direction for me as I seek the position of County Judge for Brazoria County.”
