After Pearland Mayor Kevin Cole announced he would run for Brazoria County judge, which was won by Rob Giesecke in the Republican primary race for county judge, two candidates stepped up to run for the office of mayor in the upcoming May 2 election.

What will your biggest priority be if elected?
My biggest priority will be representing every resident of Pearland. Having lived in both East (10y) and West (10y) Pearland, I realize our needs are different, but our aspirations are the same. That perspective allows for intentional decision-making that will build better communities and a better Pearland.
What changes, if any, would you like to see to the city's budget?
The budget process needs to be brought to residents, not the other way around. I will keep Pearland residents directly in the loop through community town halls and progress reports, while prioritizing sustainable economic growth and smart infrastructure development in my policy.
What infrastructure projects would you like to see prioritized in the next term?
Projects that reduce traffic, ensure clean water and protect our homes from disaster while minimizing the debt are the highest priority. A data-driven approach will be utilized. I will keep residents informed using consistent community updates through mayoral town halls and social media.
What should Pearland prioritize to promote economic development?
We should use the Economic Development Corporation more effectively. Additionally, I believe the mayor should be the most vocal proponent for Pearland residents. I will take on this responsibility and take a more active role to solicit, secure and solidify businesses expansion into our city.
How should Pearland approach repairing roads throughout the city?
Using clear metrics—traffic volume, crash rates, pavement condition, and growth and land-use projections—the city should prioritize road projects that improve safety and serve the most residents, ensuring timely repairs and efficient use of taxpayer dollars while supporting Pearland’s long-term development and mobility needs.

What will your biggest priority be if elected?
My top priorities will be public safety, keeping Pearland affordable, investing in infrastructure and flood mitigation, and managing our growth responsibly so we protect the quality of life residents value.
What changes, if any, would you like to see to the city's budget?
Residents are feeling real economic pressure. The city’s budget should stay focused on core services—public safety, roads, drainage and infrastructure—while spending taxpayer dollars responsibly. When possible, I support maintaining the no-new-revenue tax rate and increasing the homestead exemption to help keep Pearland affordable for families.
What infrastructure projects would you like to see prioritized in the next term?
Key priorities include traffic relief at major intersections, road and sidewalk repairs, drainage and flood mitigation projects, and continued investment in water and wastewater infrastructure to support stability in Pearland’s water needs.
What should Pearland prioritize to promote economic development?
Pearland should focus on attracting a broader mix of businesses including restaurants, retail and employers, while supporting our existing business community. Strategic planning and coordination with the Economic Development Corporation will be important to create destinations that serve residents and strengthen the local economy.
How should Pearland approach repairing roads throughout the city?
Pearland should continue proactive street maintenance and coordinate road repairs with drainage, water and sewer improvements. Doing this work together allows the city to rebuild streets more efficiently, reduce disruption to neighborhoods, and make better use of taxpayer dollars.
